I’d Like To Thank The Academy…

One of my new favorite blogs is Catharsis. Laura is witty and smart, two qualities I look for in a blogger. Apparently she likes me too because she gave me The Versatile Blogger Award. I was given this award once before by my dear friend Grace at Musings Of Mama Grace. But Tom Hanks has 784 Oscars, so I can at least have two of these awards.

Besides, the whole point of the award is to help you guys get to know me better by telling you five things about me. Who wouldn’t want to know five things about me? It’s also a great way to introduce you to five new bloggers. New blogs are coming on to my radar all the time, so that part was easy.

It’s hard to think of five things you guys don’t know about me. I’m an over-sharer. But I’ll try.

1. I still have the E.T. doll I got for Christmas in the 2nd grade. I slept with him all the way through elementary school, middle school, and high school. I even took him to college. He now resides under my side of the bed. It’s not outside the realm of possibility that I will start sleeping with him again when Dallas deploys. Here’s a picture, he hasn’t always been this scary looking.

2. Dallas and I are going on a trip alone together at the end of the month. After much discussion and research we decided to go to Belize! I’m very excited. The only place outside of the U.S. I’ve visited is Canada and it was so long ago that we didn’t need passports. I’m almost as excited to travel somewhere exotic and have alone time with Dallas as I am about all the sleep I’m going to get.

3. I’ve had plastic surgery. It’s the best thing I ever did that was just for myself.

Before:

After:

Worth it.

4. I’m not an adventure-seeker but I have bungee jumped. I was 18 and it was during the bungee jumping craze. There was a crane set up on the beach in Fort Myers, FL. Against my mother’s wishes and at the chiding of my father I did it. It was great. I hope my children never do anything so stupid and irresponsible.

5. The smell of peach schnapps makes me gag.

Now for the best part. The five blogs think you should get to know right now!

1. Grapes and Oranges

2. The Fire Horse

3. Critters and Crayons

4. Stuff Boys Do

5. The Happy Logophile

Well…what are you waiting for? Go check them out!

Oh! My first award! I made the list! WOW! Thanks Bridget. *sniff* Honored.

Wait, I have to post 5 things and 5 blog links too, right? This is way better than the stupid email chains. I’m going to start writing now. Exciting!

How I envy you and your tummy. So totally worth it, you deserve it.

  2. Mirjam says:

First of all I’m glad you realize that the doll looks really scary. And after the words trip, BELIZE and alone time my mind went blank. I’m jealously staring at my computer screen now!

  3. Bridget! You’re awesome! Thanks so much! Now, what do I do? So far, you, The Outlaw Mom and The Valentine Four have nominated me for this awesome award and I haven’t penned my post. Do you know why? The first two I got asked me to name 15 bloggers. I’ve been struggling with which FIFTEEN to pick who might actually re-blog the award! I like yours better. Five is much more manageable! I’m going to have to sit down and write mine. Seriously. Thank you so much! And you are so brave to post those pics, but I agree. Totally worth it. hahahahaha! Thank YOU!!!!

I’m sorry ET is a little scary but my sister has a massive bear she’s had YEARS named Mr. Bear and I think any stuffed animal after that many years looks a little scary. Congrats on your reward!

  6. Christin says:

Your tummy rocks. Your doctor rocks too. I’m just saying.

  7. Mel says:

Awwwww…ET phone home! I hope my daughter’s Piglet doll lasts that long.

  8. Kim Pugliano says:

    I like your bedspread.

  9. Thanks Bridget! Have a wonderful time away… Do not fall victim to any urges to schedule activities. My wife and I went away this year for our 15th anniversary, and canoes and kayaks were included in the resort stay, so we got in a canoe. Paddled for about 6 minutes, then abandoned ship and returned to take a nap. Remember, naps are the primary agenda.

  10. I am sooo jealous! I swear if I could afford it I would be in for that tummy tuck before you could blink your eyes!!
Its always good to get away. One day I shall figure out what that’s like. ;)

  11. Nami says:

Holy Crow, you ROCK! Thanks for the mention!

Found “Grapes & Oranges” and “Stuff Boys Do” through your blog, can’t wait to check out the others. Thanks.

Personally, that ET doll would give me nightmares – is he going to Belize, too?

  12. Your stomach looks amazing! And ET looks a wee bit creepy!

  13. Oh my god, your tummy looks great! My tummy looks like the before, and I didn’t even have twins! (Damn 10 pound babies). How bad did the plastic surgery hurt? Cuz I kind of want this now.

  14. —Congrats!! You deserve it. For sure.

Are you serious about the plastic surgery? WOW. xx

  15. Grace says:

I was just gonna say !!! Haven’t we done this one before ??? ;)
Anyway yes, I would say you’re up there amongst the Tom Hanks of the blogger Oscars :)

Belize ! Awesome ! You better be on-line on that trip, that’s all I can say :)

My friend’s sister had twins (only 1 set) and she had plastic surgery in the same place you did. Her self-confidence lifted a thousand-fold. Hasn’t looked back since.

    Now it’s official. You’re double the awesomeness ! x

  16. Jo Eberhardt says:

Wow. Thanks! That’s really sweet of you. Now I have to try to think of 5 interesting things about myself. Damn it, that could take all month.

On another note, what’s with the peach schnapps? Did you get super-drunk on it in your younger days or something?

I drank a whole bottle of Sabra when I was about 20, and was so drunk I was literally hurling myself full-body at the floor and then giggling insanely about how it didn’t even hurt when I landed on my face. Consequence 1: I was covered in bruises for the next week. Consequence 2: The smell of chocolate and orange together makes me start gagging, even 15 years later.

Wait a minute… was that an interesting fact about me? Or was it just sad?

  17. Jessica says:

I think I would be slightly freaked by that doll under my bed.

Can’t wait to check out the blogs! And I’d recognize that twin skin anywhere. How long did you wait to do it? How was the recovery? It’s so on the front of my mind.
