Monday Listicles

I’m back with Stasha at The Good Life for another edition of Monday Listicles. This week’s list is guilty pleasures. I have a lot of them, so it will be hard to narrow it down to just 10, but for you I’ll do my best.

1. The Real Housewives - They’re skanky. They’re trashy. They’re quite possibly the worst people in America. I can’t get enough of them. Watching the show makes me feel better about myself. No matter how trashy I am or how many arguments I get into with my family and friends, I know I never stoop to the level of these broads. Not yet.

2. People Magazine - Like the housewives I know I shouldn’t care about celebrities. For the most part, I don’t. I don’t care who is dating or feuding with whom. I do care (just a little) about what they are wearing and who is scary skinny or fat. I don’t buy it, but if it’s in a waiting room I’ll wrestle you for it. With pictures like this floating around, how am I supposed to resist?

3. Monty Python - I’m not one of those people who knows everything there is to know about Monty Python. I can only remember a few quotes, but I love it. If I’m talking to you there’s a 78% chance this song is playing in my head.

4. Cake - Especially chocolate with chocolate frosting. If you put strawberry ice cream on the side I’ll be your best friend.

5. Sweet Tarts - I’m not above stealing every packet out of the children’s Halloween bags.

6. Crappy/Sappy Movies - Not too long ago I made a list of films that are never turned off in this house. It could be titled, “Some of the worst movies ever made.” If one of these is on TV, I’m on the couch for the next 2 hours mentally filling in every line that got cut for commercials.

7. The Stupid Dog - She makes me crazy. She follows me around day and night. She sheds constantly. I had to spend the kids inheritance keeping her alive this summer. I love her. I read some sappy thing on Pinterest the other night, got weepy, and sat on the floor snuggling her for 10 minutes. Then I was all covered with stupid dog hair. Annoying.

8. Lists - Obviously.

9. Wine and Popcorn - Dallas is gone a lot. More often than I like to admit I make something easy for the kids like mac & cheese, McDonald’s (going through the drive thru counts as “making dinner”) or leftovers. I wait until they’re in bed for my dinner; wine and popcorn. Add in #1 and it’s a perfect night.

10. Photo Websites - Not photography websites. I barely know how to turn on the camera. If it’s not point and shoot, I’m out. I mean sites with just pictures of random crap attached to snarky commentary. I can spend hours, literally hours clicking through the pages of sites like Damn That Looks Good, Awkward Family Pet Photos, and Catalog Living.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

(Seriously I did it again! Please remove the other comment.)
I like your list and I’m trying to get over the fact that they made those children sing ‘every sperm is sacred.’

  3. Stasha says:

Pop corn is corn, wine is made of grapes. Therefor you are a very healthy eater and that is 2 of your 5 a day! I could easily pop you on my top 100 guilty pleasure reads. Even above Monthy!

  4. Christin says:

Romantic comedies. US Magazine. Chocolate chip cookies (as you already guessed). Just the chocolate chips (not to be left out of course). The Bachelor (seriously I follow these people on Twitter because I feel like the show is still going. Sad, I know.) I am pretty sure I could come up with many, many more but I have embarrassed myself enough for one night.
And don’t be too nice to me or I will bake you that cake you talked about. Ooh. Add baking to the list….

  5. Char - mom # 3 :-) says:

Best- and worst-dressed lists! Can’t resist them! I like to look at the pictures before I read the commentary and guess whether the person is “best” or “worst” dressed. I run about 50% right, sometimes much less!

  6. Nami says:

Yes, what is it about Monty Python with their bad teeth and closet gayness – their skits are forever etched in my mind even outlasting the lyrics to “Stairway To Heaven”. Wink-wink-nudge-nudge-say no more…

  7. Jessica says:

Your dog is adorable. I think you need to write a WTF post on that outfit. That is just crazy.

  8. DAD says:

RETIEMENT !!! /// sorry TOYATO you have none !!!!!! ///

  9. Mel says:

Ahhh…I now know why we would get along very well. We would never fight over cake (I love white with white icing), but we could enjoy our respective cakes while cuddling our dogs and watching Ferris!

  10. Amy says:

A couple more to add to your list. Also it will make you feel like a better parent and all around better person. Enjoy! C:

  11. Katie E. says:

Those photo websites make my list, too! And I love a good crappy/sappy movie. US Weekly is my gossip magazine of choice, but I won’t turn down a People magazine either.

  12. I love your list!! I am totally with you on the chocolate cake with chocolate frosting!

  13. MommaKiss says:

I’ve read that dog thing on Pinterest. Not nice. But I did the same damn thing.

  14. Jackie says:

I think we are cut from the same cloth. Most of the movies on your list are in high demand in our house too, though Steel Magnolias is still an no go for my H.
Real Housewives are truly one of the best/worst guilty pleasures out there…that coming from a Jersey girl! (Did you see the first part of that reunion last night?!)

  15. Meredith says:

I love awkward family photos! Also any hillbilly reality shows, makes me feel better about where I come from.

  16. Kathy O says:

Realty TV. Also I should never admit this but Mike and I do watch The Jersey Shore when the kids aren’t in the room. Kaitlyn caught us and laughed at us.

  17. bestfoodies says:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE cake – (see my list lol) . You crack me up talking about the dog…I love my dog and my grandpuppies and I have been known to sit and hug them and cry it out!

  18. Jamie says:

    8 and 9…. HEART!!!

  19. Cookie's Mom says:

Monty Python – yes! Love that video. Cake – Helloooo – YES!! Great list, Bridget.

  20. ava says:

I really like how an “oversharer” you are! Keep the lists coming.. :) My guilty pleasures? Korean dramas and i’ve starting reading Japanese manga just this month. Husband’s not so supportive though.

  21. That’s hilarious that you can spend hours looking at crappy pictures. I think since I got a professional camera, I am really doing interventions with my closest friends on FB. There are limits you know. LOL.

And totally with you about the chocolate cake. That is always my first choice in dessert.

  22. Grace says:

I had wine and popcorn last night over date night ! It was bliss !
And OMG, the People magazine is called “Who” over here. I.Am.Obsessed. I read it religiously.
I’m not with you on the Real Housewives thing, though. I think it’s because I see plenty of those at my playgroups…(meow !)

  23. I am a total sucker for sappy movies!!

  24. I love best/worst dressed lists/photos/mags, not sure why. After awards shows, I google all the fashion sites, even though I watched the damn show, just to hear the snark. I guess actually I should’ve added “snark” to my list of (guilty) pleasures! And there should be no guilt about the dinners that get prepared when Daddy is gone…mine eat pizza or noodles or some other white-food substance; I eat cheese and crackers. And wine. Vive the vino!

  25. okay so now I have to curse you b/c I just spent 20 minutes scrolling through “people of walmart” and I’m obsessed. Horrified. But obsessed.

  26. I love photo sites too. Have you checked out cakewrecks.com before? Oh wait, maybe it’s just me who likes weird shit cakes.

  27. [...] know about my fetish for wine, People Magazine, and The Real Housewives – so I won’t rehash it. Instead I’m going to talk about soccer. [...]
