Girls Are Smarter Than Boys

It’s true. I have proof.

On Saturday we went to an Easter event. It was held at the indoor playground, staffed mostly by teenagers and young adults.  We go there a lot, the kids are all nice and respectful. That’s why I was shocked and amused when I heard one of the young men make this announcement over the loudspeaker:

“Attention ladies and gentlemen. We have a young black lady…in a purple shirt who is looking for her parents.”

His words, not mine. A young black lady. Not only is it not the politically correct description, it’s not even a good description.

A few minutes later (I think, I lose track of time when I’m laughing and making fun of teenage boys) one of the young women who works there came on the speaker and made this announcement:

“Attention ladies and gentlemen. We have a four-year-old girl named Lilly at the desk. She is wearing a white dress with purple polka dots and a purple cardigan and has lost her parents.”

I rest my case.

There is nothing to ad. Hope Lily does not end up marrying one of them geniuses when she grows up!

  2. Poppy says:

I’m glad the little girl wasn’t hispanic. That would have been really awkward.

OMG you can’t make this up. You’re my funny that gets me out of bed. I read your post mostly before I even stand. Little humor juice to get me moving!

Cut the boy some slack…I’m kidding, totally stupid!

  5. Well what if a slew of parents ran up looking for their little white daughter in a purple dress who had gone missing?

For months after I met Noah’s big brother who was 2, his mom thought I was black with green eyes, because he failed to describe my skin color but was obsessed with my eyes. They shoulda had a little kid get on that loudspeaker.

Hahaha! We have them here in droves too! So funny! :)

  7. I would not call us stupid. This is just a classic example of men/boys being basic, not into details.

I would have said probably the same thing with the exception of leaving out skin color.

Appalling stupidity! The cartoon is killing me.

I wouldn’t call it stupidity either, I’d call it racism.

Saturday I was out with a friend at a karaoke bar. She’s just like me (AHEM: young, beautiful, hysterical, and stylish) but not as snarky and black. After a song and a drink, she went up to the bar and asked for a refill for her glass of water (gotta keep the pipes loose!). The bartender wanted $3 to refill her glass of tap water. I saw her puzzled face upon returning and immediately grabbed the empty glass. I went up and asked for a refill from the same bartender, and she pleasantly filled it up without question.

People might not think that’s racist, but it is guys. It immediately made my friend aware that only she and another gentleman (not with us) were the only minorities in the place. Before that, we were just having a good time and that fact didn’t matter. Once brought to our attention that she would be treated differently than others, it very much mattered. Needless to say, my friend and I will not be going back to that place.

  10. That’s hilarious! And the cartoon you chose to use is perfect. I can’t believe he didn’t even think to ask the little girl her name!

I really love reading your post you are to funny! I miss you my friend.

  12. Jamie says:

I’m surprised she didn’t also include the conversation she had with her, what brand of shoes she was wearing and if she seemed nice enough or not. All about the details!

Light bulb! An indoor playground staffed by teenagers is a great place to ditch the kids before they can remember their parents name.
