I am not good at finding deals. I don’t sort through rack after rack at big sales. I’ve only gone to Black Friday once. I don’t do garage sales or Craigslist. It’s not because I’m a snob, I’m just lazy. Super duper lazy. I would rather wake up at 7 AM on Saturday to run 5 miles in 20 degree weather than spend two hours driving from house to house, rifling through piles of garbage to find the one great deal. I don’t hold garage sales either. I know people make a lot of money on them. But the idea of sorting and pricing all our stuff out makes my eye twitch.
Craigslist eludes me. My friend Sara is the Craigslist maestro. She can find anything, seriously anything you could ever want on Craigslist. When John split open his kidney I considered asking her to start looking for a replacement. Me? I only find porn and free kittens – neither of which I have the energy for anymore.
So, I never get good deals. Because I’m lazy. But that all changed tonight when I attended the Hand Me Ups Consignment Sale Event. I knew as soon as I walked in this sale was a winner. It was clean and well-organized, my eye didn’t twitch one time.
The clothes were neatly separated by gender and size. All prices were clearly marked.
You read that right, $1.00. All the prices were excellent. There were maternity clothes as well as children’s clothes. I expected to only see baby clothes, since we always have baby clothes to give away. But I was surprised to see clothes for children of all ages, even a small section of junior sizes.
The aisles are wide and the store is clean. You can bring the kids and you won’t have to worry about them picking out a toy that is too gross for you to purchase. I almost walked off with this cute little guy, but his Mom seemed nice and like she could take me in a fist fight, so I settled for a picture.
There was even a Halloween costume section. New Halloween costumes are obscenely overpriced, aren’t they?
But this isn’t just a clothing sale, there are all sorts of kids items. Bumbo chairs, swings, bouncy seats, strollers, high chairs, playsets…everything you need to outfit your child at literally a fraction of the cost.
They had a double B.O.B stroller!
The best part was the toys. Every toy had all the pieces. All of them were in clean working order. It took every ounce of restraint (and the reminder that I’m a grown up and my only daughter will be 16 on Saturday) not to buy this Barbie Dream House.
If you’re like me and want to save cash, but are too lazy to make a real effort you should go to this event. (Even if you’re not lazy like me you should go.) Hand Me Ups, LLC Consignment Sale Event is this weekend from October 18-October 21 at The Mall At Sears.
They take cash or credit cards. (The second worse thing about garage sales is that I must have cash, which I never carry.) Don’t wait too long to get the good stuff. All sales are final. The event only happens twice a year, October and April, so splurge and stock up on Christmas presents and clothes for the season. If you buy the Barbie Dream house, invite me over to play.
While you’re at it like the Hand Me Ups, LLC Facebook Page. (Like Twinisms page, too!) They’ll keep you updated on the events and when they are accepting goods for consignment.
Disclosure: I was compensated for this post, but all views are expressly my own. I really do hate garage sales and I really do love this event.

Now if only I’m there and not here. The Barbie Dream House will be perfect for my two girls.
Oh it would be!! Move here so I can play barbies with them. Please?
And advance happy 16th birthday Taryn!
I’ll tell John you said so too.
Hahaha! I am sorry, i totally forgot! I blame it on your blog posts, they are so distinctly different that I totally forgot they are fraternal twins! Sorry John! Advance happy 16th birthday to John too!
That looks great! I’m like you. I hate garage sales. Never had one, never will. I get that they can be lucrative but I’m too lazy too (and I might also have that eye twitching thing…)
I’m glad I’m not the only one. The only other thing this sale needs is wine!
Oh, I want to come!! It must be like Savers, but not as smelly.
I don’t know what Savers is, but it’s definitely not smelly!
I loved buying used things. I’m glad you’re finally making mon-ay on this blog! You deserve it!
Thank you Jodi!
We had a similar style sale every year in England. I got a Burberry outfit for my son for a fiver. Sometimes you walk into one of these and know it is awesome. Glad you found a sale that fits you. Cause I am not a bargain hunter either.
I know, I like getting good deals, but don’t have the patience to go find them! This one made it easy -I’m all for easy.
I loved reading all about the sale! My best friend, Kari, is the one who runs the event and unfortunately I moved before her first sale. I heard it was a spectacular event, but your blog just proved it!
Of course you know Kari! Angel referred her to me! This world gets smaller and smaller doesn’t it?
Whether you’re 8 or 16 or (plegm-fart) you’re never too old for Barbie’s dream house. Guess we’d have more garage sales around here if we had actual…garages. Do me a favor and get that dream house for me – if it’s under $5 bucks.
Seriously, if it was socially acceptable I would totally play with Barbies. Not in a weird way or anything…I realize that sounds creepy.
Wanna know the secret to having a garage sale yourself and not end up with twitchy eyes? Only sorta kinda sort things and don’t price a cotton picking thing! Know what your bottom dollar is for the more spendy items but just put out a sign saying “make me an offer!” Lemme tell ya…sooooo much easier than pricing everything! We actually had some multiples and no two people offered the same for them. And…we accepted all the offers. lol. I think the offers ranged from like 50 cents to $2 so it was kind of awesome.
