We took the boys to see the stage production of Mary Poppins this weekend. It was good. I’m not a big fan of musicals, so just like all the others I think there was a little too much singing and dancing. I was also disappointed that Mrs. Banks was not a suffragist like she was in a movie – apparently strong women aren’t allowed on screen or stage. Anywho.
During the play Jackson told me these things.
“Mommy, is there popcorn?”
“How are they flying those kites, there’s no wind!!”
And my favorite, during a tap dancing number where a dancer climbed the walls and the ceiling, clearly suspended by wires, “I know that’s not real Mommy, he just has sticky shoes.”
On Saturday I told him we would be going to baby shower. He looked at me quizzically and said, “are we all just going to stand in the bathroom?”
After I explained to him that ‘baby shower’ was not a literal term he said, “so at a baby shower, is there cake?”
Later, during the story/advice sharing portion of the shower Dallas intercepted Jackson as he came up from the kids party downstairs, which had already included games, pizza, and ice cream. Dallas said, “hey Jackson, what do you need?”
“I need to speak to Mom please.”
“Why do you need her?”
“She said there was going to be cake.”
